- A new exhibition sees ten new porcelain works of art created by award winning London-based artist Hitomi Hosono on display in the house at Lanhydrock.
- The intricate and detailed works of art have been inspired by Lanhydrock’s botanical and ceramic collections.
- Lanhydrock’s historic ceramics, collected by the Agar-Robartes family over the years, are also on display.
- The exhibition runs from 1 September to 31 October 2023.
A new exhibition showcasing ten new porcelain works of art by award winning London-based artist Hitomi Hosono is now open at the National Trust’s Lanhydrock estate, just outside Bodmin.
Inspired by Lanhydrock: ceramics, botany, artists with artist Hitomi Hosono, is now on display, courtesy of Adrian Sassoon, London, along the Mansion route in the house at Lanhydrock until the end of October 2023.
Hitomi Hosono is an internationally renowned artist whose detailed white porcelain vessels reference the natural world and botanical specimens. Her work captivates with its delicacy and has attracted the patronage of many major public collections including the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Over the past two years, both the house and garden collections at Lanhydrock have inspired Hitomi to create these new works of art which visitors can now see amongst the existing historic collections. Lanhydrock’s historic ceramics, including Japanese, Chinese and European pieces collected by the Agar-Robartes family over the years, will also be on display.
Visitors will have the chance to delve into Hitomi’s methods and materials to discover the story behind the creation of these exquisite works in porcelain. A special downloadable garden trail is available highlighting some of the rhododendrons, magnolias and other plants from Lanhydrock’s botanical collection which have inspired Hitomi’s works.

Collaborating with Hitomi has enabled all staff involved to see Lanhydrock through a new lens. She has been so generous with her time and given us such thoughtful insights, we are delighted to finally show our visitors Hitomi’s beautiful works within this extraordinary setting … we hope it also inspires them to further explore Lanhydrock house and garden.’
Hitomi Hosono, the contemporary artist whose works will be featured in the exhibition, hopes her art will help visitors take a different view of the house and collections. She adds ‘Making my works for the exhibition, I feel like I have become part of the story of Lanhydrock. As you might expect, the story doesn’t end with my work on show here. I believe people can enjoy what follows; to appreciate the house; to enjoy the garden; to be inspired.’
Inspired by Lanhydrock: ceramics, botany, artists with artist, Hitomi Hosono is free to attend but normal admission applies for non-National Trust members. Lanhydrock is open daily.
